Red Devil FB: Rock Springs Tigers 14 @ Evanston 20 (Homecoming)
Report to WyoPreps.com & for KEVA/Magic 99. Streaming audio sportscast replay should be posted by Monday....
The 0-3 Rock Springs Tigers were initially the aggressor in Evanston's Homecoming game, and put together a strong opening drive before missing a 29 yard field goal. The Red Devils gave up on downs on the Tiger 14 yard line, and the Tigers would capitalize on their next possession, culminated by a 9 yard Ron Halstead td run. Kyle Crandall would even the score at 7 on a 1 yard run for paydirt with just 1 second before the break. The Tigers would again make the Red Devils play catch up, with a 2 yard td run by qb Drew Rollin early in the third, capping a 72 yard drive. Cody Saloga rushed for 199 yards on 28 carries and two short yardage touchdowns in the second half to give the Red Devils a 20 -14 South 5A conference victory over a determined Tiger team in a hard-hitting fast-paced game. The 4-0 Red Devils travel to Laramie next Friday night to face the 0-4 Plainsmen, while the Tigers head to the Tetons to face the 4A Jackson Broncs as the Red Devils earn at least a share of the 5A Conference lead and another happy Homecoming in the Etown! The Tigers scored with :31 left to avoid the halftime shut-out and pull within a score at 7-14, and would tie the game on a 69 yard Ron Halstead td run and extra point on their second possession in the third, following a Red Devil fumble. Evanston would answer with a 40 yard Kyle Crandall to Chance Keyes connection down the far sideline to break the deadlock, 21 to 14. Tigers Quarterback Willie Padilla and fullback Kevin Mattinson each rushed for two touchdowns in the game, including a pair in the third and early fourth, when the Tigers took a 26-21 lead with 9:22 left to play. Cody Saloga, who finished with 75 yards and three scores on the night broke through from 26 yards out, and after an injury time-out, the Tigers would fumble on their own 30, resulting in a 30 yard Jamis Short run for paydirt that made it 35-26: (audio cut).
